Down the Hill appears in O’Neill’s Dance Music of Ireland, 1001 Gems (1907). Is the Big Man Within? appears in O’Neill’s Music of Ireland (1907) and later within Roche’s Collection of Irish Airs, Marches and Dance Tunes, vol. 2 (1927) as “An Fear Mór” (The Big Man). Dr Orfhlaith Ní Bhriain and Mick McCabe speculate the title refers to journeyman tailors (see Jigs to Jacobites, 2018).

Fiddle player Caitlin Finley played for us back in the day at the Coatesville Traditional Irish Music Series. It took a while to find out she’d made a CD with flute & piano (also piccolo, pipes & melodeon) accompaniment but it was worth the wait! Check it out. Will Woodson & Chris Stevens are standouts, too. It’s nice to find a contemporary Irish CD I like start to finish. Frank Dalton

Masterful box playing. Has some very appealing, unusual quality to it - hard to put into words... might be the Sliabh Luachra style peeping through. musicstillspeaks
