about

The melodic material of the Cúil Aodha comes from the song Máthair Mo Chéile (The Mother-in-law) as recorded by Éamon de Buitléar & Ceoltóirí Laighean. The Castle jig is a Seán Ryan composition. Garrett Barry’s is associated with the blind piper from Inagh, Clare, appearing as “Split the Whisker (the new)” in the Goodman manuscripts (1860s) and published in Tunes of the Munster Pipers, vol. 2.
