Our version of the Blackbird comes from the playing of Pádraig McGovern and Peter Carberry. The tune has Fermanagh connections, and was played by Big John McManus. Cathal McConnell played this Blackbird also; it’s transcribed in Cowdrey’s Melodic Tradition of Ireland (1990). The Lone Bush is a composition of the late fiddle player Ed Reavy.

Fiddle player Caitlin Finley played for us back in the day at the Coatesville Traditional Irish Music Series. It took a while to find out she’d made a CD with flute & piano (also piccolo, pipes & melodeon) accompaniment but it was worth the wait! Check it out. Will Woodson & Chris Stevens are standouts, too. It’s nice to find a contemporary Irish CD I like start to finish. Frank Dalton

Masterful box playing. Has some very appealing, unusual quality to it - hard to put into words... might be the Sliabh Luachra style peeping through. musicstillspeaks
