This slow air was collected by Canon James Goodman (1860s), where it is titled “Caoine Phiaruis Feirtéara / Piers Ferriter's Lament for His Wife and Children.” Piaras Feiritéar (circa 1600-1653) was the lord of Baile an Fheirtéaraigh (Ballyferriter), Corca Dhuibhne, Kerry. He was a renowned poet and harper executed by Cromwellian forces in 1653. In 2009, Peter Browne made the first-known recording of this air for an Irish Traditional Music Archive studio recording. This is its first appearance on a commercial recording.
